Parker Knoll made this style of chair famous. Wingback chairs have been made for hundreds of years – the wing to shelter you from draughts and to rest your head. Our customer selected a lovely wool mix plaid tartan and asked us to self pipe the edges.
It looks really elegant and styling, now updated and more fitting to a contemporary or traditional home.
A chair like this is a valuable asset to any family and it may live in a number of rooms in the future. Very lovely.
We had a little debate recently on how to spell ‘Knole’ when referring to a Knole Sofa. With a little help from the Internet, we confirmed the correct spelling and decided to share some history – you can view the original Knole sofa in Knole in Kent.
The Knole sofa was made in the 17th century. Originally used not as a comfortable sofa but as a formal throne on which the monarch would have sat to receive visitors. It is housed at Knole in Kent, a house owned by the Sackville-Wests since 1605 but now in the care of the National Trust.
To identify a Knole sofa it usually has exposed wooden finials at the rear corner tops. The arms are sides and are of the same height as the back. The side arms are tied to the sofa back by means of heavy decorative braid, often with an elaborate tassel.
The strong shape and sturdy lines of this chair made me fall in love with it. Our customer chose a beautiful Linwood houndstooth fabric with a gentle stone and lichen colourway. The build quality of this era of furniture manufacturer is impeccable – again, sturdy and strong quality. The equivalent, if you could buy one new, would be over ÂŁ5000. And it’s great to restore rather than make new – a delight. Matching sofa below.
How about a bespoke contemporary chair made just for you, just the way you like it. Made to order to your exacting requirements. The Deep T chair can be made static with a choice of legs or – like this one – it can swivel, ideal for a corner to allow the chair to slightly turn for conversations or serious watching TV and set in a wider area like a large window to allow full view or change of light.
We make these chairs to order in any fabric from our catalogue or supply your own fabric. This piece was ordered with thick bolster cushions. You can specify shapes and styles of the cushion shape and filling consistency.
The styling is contemporary so it will fit with a traditional home or a modern home.

Fabric was selected by our customer from John Lewis. I think its a great balance between traditional and contempory with a medern quality hardy fabric.
Lovely choice of fabric – goes well with the colour of wood.
Rather clever what our customer did with this office chair for her study.
Instead of the typical plain or blue (boring) fabric, she selected this high-quality deco style fabric to create a more soothing to look at and stylish office study chair.
We also reupholstered a matching chest footstool.
Now a matching pair of bespoke pieces for a study. Perfect.
Caravans of old were fixed to the caravan frame and usually built as a bench for conversion to beds as needed. The modern caravan now often have free-standing soft furniture that is bespoke made to optimise the caravan space. This is a great example; The chair is just slightly smaller than the standard home chair and the design optimises all space. The sofa is slightly angled and comes apart for fitting an removal.
Reupholstered in a high quality upholstery grade fabric. It looks really clean and modern – we love it.
Restored, re-padded and reupholstered with all new hand made buttons in Linwood.
A delight!
