Since 1908, Cintique has been renowned for designing and manufacturing high-quality, comfortable chairs and sofas. Our expert team is dedicated to preserving this legacy by offering comprehensive restoration and reupholstery services for Cintique furniture.
We recently had the pleasure of restoring and reupholstering a beautiful pair of Cintique chairs, tailored precisely to our customer’s specifications. The frames, worn and scratched after 40 years of use, were meticulously re-varnished, and the upholstery was fully renewed, resulting in a stunning transformation.
Our expertise extends beyond Cintique; we specialise in restoring all furniture brands, including all quality, important, historic, antique, and retro soft furnishings. Duresta sofas and chairs often visit our workshop.
For over 80 years, Duresta has been synonymous with quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.
At BJ Upholstery, we specialise in the reupholstery, alteration, and repair of Duresta furniture. Whether you want to restore your cherished pieces to their original style or make alterations to suit your needs, we bring our expertise to every project. One recent example is when we expertly replaced the damaged arm fabric and front facings, using fabric provided by Duresta, on a piece that had become a favourite scratching post for a client’s cat. We carefully deconstructed the damaged areas and seamlessly replaced the fabric, leaving the furniture looking and feeling brand new.
We can also customise the frame size of any Duresta sofa to meet your specific requirements. For instance, we resized a three-seater Duresta sofa to fit perfectly into a bay window of our customer’s new home.
This is an exquisite Duresta lounge set we reupholstered for a customer in Dorset. This collection features two generously sized three-seater sofas, complemented by a pair of wing chairs, a lounge chair, and a button-padded footstool.
All types of repairs are covered through our Uplift, Repair, and Return service. We address common issues such as broken frames, spring replacements, and under-seat platform repairs. Our prices include most repair parts; however, additional components such as bespoke foams or sprung units may be necessary at an additional cost—feel free to inquire about a quote for these items. The Uplift and Repair service is priced at £650, inclusive of complimentary collection and delivery within Darlington. In most cases, we will repair and rectify common issues and make your sofa good for many years in the future all in one go.
For areas beyond Darlington, please arrange shipment to our workshops. We currently use Proovia Couriers. For a precise estimate, please request a specific quote.
How the Uplift and Repair came about:
Over the years we have collected sofas and chairs for repair, occasionally retrieving them again later for further repairs. We realised the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of conducting all necessary preventative repairs and refurbishments in one comprehensive process while the furniture was in the workshop was a better idea. For instance, if a customer’s sofa has broken springs, we address that issue along with checking and tightening the frame, and replacing the platform, all while the sofa is disassembled on the bench. Cost-effective and prevents further disruption.
What is Covered in the Price
The uplift and return delivery to your home. Check and make good the frame, springs, webbing and any other issues like ripped platform.
Every job is different. Usually, a sofa will come into the workshop for one repair item, while it is there we check and repair all as stated above included in the price.
An Example
A customer contacted us to repair a ripped platform (the fabric liner under the seat cushions). We suggested the Uplift, repair, and return service. On investigation, we found the cause of the ripped platform was sagging springs. So we replaced the serpentine springs and checked the frame which prevents future damage.
Options are bespoke foam seat cushions, fibre back cushions, replacement legs and new seat cases. New feather inner cases to order.

This is quite a rare Knole Sofa – I’ve never seen one of this size and it is quite unique in that the styling is squared. Possibly a 1930’s bespoke made to order piece. Great to fit our modern homes with timeless elegance.
Replacing cushion foams on your sofa/chair can bring it back to life, and make your furniture look better and more comfortable.
Replacement, cushion, foams.
All our replacement cushions are made to order in our workshop, bespoke to each case and your preferences. We fit the replacement foams correctly to your cushion cases and can collect and deliver if required. The replacement foams are fire retardant and come with a fibre wrap and a stockinette outer for a soft touch.
Pricing
Depending on the size and shape the price for an average 26″ x 23″ x 6″ is in the region of £125 each. A large two seater sofa pair of seat foams tend to be about £275 – less if we can. Please contact us for an accurate price – remember to include dimensions and your location if you require collection and delivery. Our prices include the correct fitting to the case but not the disposal of the old foams. *Due to recent price increases, I am afraid, please check with us for the updated pricing.
