Yes, this sofa is sixty years old. Made in the fab 1960s and purchased second-hand many years ago by our customer. Should they restore it or not was the question. They are so glad they did – delighted.
It is lovely and a design classic that will appreciate in value as an original retro classic.
Beech framed bespoke made to customers exact specification and dimensions. Made by us this bespoke sofa fits exactly in our customer’s kitchen. It is upholstered in AquClean – clean with water fabric.
‘3-2-1’. A three-seater plus a two-seater and a chair. A set of a modern ‘Saddle’ style lounge sofas and chair. We reupholstered this for our customer in a Ross Aquaclean fabric.
Reupholstered for your customer some 15 years ago in a chintz cotton fabric this chair looked more suited to sit in a conservatory or by a french window. It was destined for our customer’s newly renovated Victorian bedroom so our customer selected a Linwood Velvet in Gold Sand. I wish I had a photograph of the chair before as the difference is quite amazing. I’d hardly recognise the chair.
This is a rare example of a very high-quality chair, the suggestion that it is very high quality when it was made is the sprung arms. Yes, actual springs are set into the top of each arm and tied-in then covered with a heavy wadding. Tricky to do but, as always, our pleasure resurrecting a quality classic like this for many more years use.
An Ikea sofa? Although it tends to be more cost-effective to reupholster high end furniture, retro, collectors and antique furniture we are more often now restoring, altering and reupholstering originally lower costed soft furniture, like this Ikea sofa; which looks and feels absolutely delightful.
Reasons vary; from the customer just likes the style and it fits the room to not able to find the style they like and sometimes just wanted to design their own sofa reusing an established frame for environmental reasons.
The benefit too is that once restored this sofa is something else. We strip the original sofa to its bare frame, fix and amend and make good all the internals then reupholster from there. Fabrics and materials are of a much higher standard and quality than those used for furniture manufactured to a tight budget. Therefore here we have a bespoke, customised hand-built high-quality sofa made in Britain that will last a generation. Is it still an Ikea sofa?
Fireside Chair reupholstered in Linwood Italian Velvet. Parker Knoll in style.
This is a fifteen your old good quality chair from Barker & Stonehouse that our customer wanted to replace but he could not find a suitable sized, styled and comfortable chair. So they came to us to have it restored and reupholstered. This is a great option – you can select a new fabric and even adjust the seating and detail. I think the orange fabric is a great choice.
I may use this word too often, ‘stunning’ and I may say this too often, ‘I want to take it home!’ Both apply here. We restored this 1930s sofa and reupholstered in a mustard Linwood Omega Italian Velvet. The quality, detail and styling are exquisite.
Our customer looked for this exact style for some time, originally made in Denmark, she found it on eBay and shipped it to us. It’s art you can sit on.
The design and coordination on this G-Plan set it really effective and looks amazing.
Linwood printed velvets are becoming quite popular this year. Here is a great showpiece where our customer asked for the piping as on the sofa to show on the coordinating chair.
Now a totally unique bespoke set of furniture with the G-plan style and quality.
We repaired, adjusted the height and reupholstered this older previously made to order sofa.
The customer provided the fabric and specified the adjustments.
Reupholstered Parker Knoll Rocking Chair. It is 50 years old and still going strong. A delightful retro everlasting chair that rocks.
A wonderful love seat, we reupholstered for our customer in Yellow rich Gold, how amazing it looks in the bay window. Its got a 1930s look and style to it. The shape and curve of the loveseat are enough, a patterned fabric will detract from the style. This plain fabric choice shows off the shape and boosts its appeal with the beautiful gold velvet.
Rattan or Cane backed furniture including Bergere furniture have this woven cane in the back and sometimes arms. It looks really lovely although rare to find non-damaged. It can be repaired. This example is part of a set of six dining chairs in exceptional order. We reupholstered in a fabulous linen type fabric to give it that up to date look and feel. A huge benefit too is the Ross Aquaclean fabric can be cleaned with just water.
We love this clever restoration. Blackwood varnished chair reupholstered in a Printed Velvet fabric by Linwood Fabrics.
We restored and re-varnished the frame in black then reupholstered in this amazing printed velvet. The chair has been shipped to London.
I really like this one, it’s a straight forward box footstool. Our customer made her own design by selecting a lovey wool plaid fabric and asking us to pipe the top in leather – a great idea that makes this piece just that little more interesting to look at and touch.
All our reupholstery is bespoke and it’s really delightful to see fresh ideas from our customers that we tailor to their requirements – I wish I could keep most of the pieces we produce 😐
Did you notice the Shepherds castors? If you don’t know Shepherds castors; they allow very smooth movement of furniture on the carpet. Perfect for a footstool to slide around as needed.
There is something magical about a window seat, you can sit in the cooler area next to the window, almost outside but not. They always remind me of low sill Georgian windows – all very romantic.
A couple of examples of Window Seat Cushions below.
Bespoke to fit the window seat area. The fabric is in sage green by Ross Aqua Clean Fabrics selected by the customer. The shape, overhang, piping and depth etc can all be selected and designed by the customer. We will, of course, advise and support to get the correct fit and best long-lasting version for your home. I think this looks really lovely against the colonial blinds and I love the shade of green. And the Aqua Clean fabric can be cleaned by just water and it looks like linen.
Part of a matching pair of beautifully worn solid oak chairs. Very old, we’d say, possibly some 200 years old. A great choice of fabric nicely centred on the back and seat. Lovely rope detail.
A conservatory suite we reupholstered in a Linwood fabric. We can make new cases and boost the cushion fillings or renew all foam and fibre filling as required.
