Small turn of century armchair

Turn Of Century Armchair

A classicly shaped small turn of century armchair. Fully restored and upholstered in Linwood Omega patterned velvet. Selected by our client now safely delivered to their home in Darlington.

I have seen a number of this style of chairs in auction houses recently. They are usually in extremely bad condition, particularly the frame and springs. This example was in good order when we first started the restoration.

Bent out of shape, creaky, broken frames with popping-out springs etc can be restored – but best buy a structurally sturdy version. Cost at an auction is at an amazingly low price currently, £200- 500 each. Restored, an equivalent value will be in the region of £2000 – 5000 each. And totally unique.

Barker sofa

A Modern Take on a Chesterfield Sofa.

I recognised this sofa as soon as I saw it. Originally sold through Barker and Stonehouse furniture shop back in the 1980s. It’s a quality piece of classic furniture, basically a relaxed oversized Chesterfields sofa without the deep buttons. Originally retailed in a Kilim fabric that was slightly rough to the touch, a bit like a Kilim rug, they were super cool, stylish, massive and expensive.

We have reupholstered at least two in the last year, therefore, we know the quality of the frame. This example, our customer purchased for £50 🙂 Now it looks like a few thousand pounds. Stunning.

Dining Chair Leather Close

Leather Dining Chairs

These dining chairs were reupholstered in white grained leather as requested by the customer. Previously upholstered in the cloth – see the original image below. We use only the finest Scottish leather, it looks amazing, feels fantastic and smells really lovely. The quality of these hides is way better than most manufactured leather furniture. The leather is 4mm thick so will take generations of use. They were boardroom chairs owned by the customer. We transformed into white for the dining room.

Leather, Hide in White.
Dining Chair prior to reupholstery in leather.

At first glance, you may be forgiven for thinking this is just an old dated dining chair. Look at the frame, particularly the curved and jointed front curve of the arms, the sheen of the varnish. This is a quality designer chair. Reupholstered in a high-grade Scottish leather it took two hides to complete the set of six. Now an upgraded design piece that will sit well in a modern or contemporary home.
