Parker Knoll Chairs Reupholstered | One of Our Specialties At BJ Upholstery are Parker Knoll, we take pride in reupholstering Parker Knoll chairs, one of the brands we specialise in. We recently had the pleasure of working on a traditional pair of Parker Knoll wing-back chairs. The original upholstery was a classic green, but we’ve completed the first chair in a vibrant pink, giving it a fresh and modern look. We’re currently working on the second chair, which will be upholstered in a complementary green, offering a beautiful contrast to the first. We restored the wood legs and under-seat springing too.
A beautifully restored pair of exposed wood Parker Knoll fireside or occasional chairs. We meticulously stripped and waxed the frames, bringing out the natural grain and lustre of the wood. The chairs have been expertly reupholstered, blending timeless elegance with modern comfort.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know we have a fondness for footstools. This particular footstool, likely dating back to the 1960s, was discovered by one of our customers and sent to us for refurbishment and reupholstery following specific design styling including a neatly spaced button top. We also cleaned and polished its light-coloured wooden legs.

We had the pleasure of working on a 1960s sofa that was inherited by our customer from his grandmother. We re-made the seat cushions with new foams and gave it a fresh new look by changing the original stretchy orange fabric to a nice cream Ross Fabrics Aquaclean. It’s amazing how a simple change in colour can make such a big difference! The cream fabric makes a beautiful contrast against the historic sofa and gives it a stylish and modern look. We love being a part of preserving family heirlooms like this one.
An Ercol chair we reupholstered in a Linwood purple velvet fabric, replaced foam back and seat cushions and tightened the original under-seat webbing. Looking perfect for another generation.

Our customer bought the sofa and chair set some years ago second hand. Stored it for a long time, then decided to have it restored and reupholstered. We are glad to see a historic design icon saved to serve for many years in the future. A side note: If you look for a new equivalent to this style of sofa and of this bespoke quality you will need some thousands of pounds. This is a restored original.

How lovely it was to come down this a.m and see her sitting in the place she had occupied since 1970. We are quite overwhelmed. An absolutely incredible transformation. Barry’s experience is second to none. The frame adjustments have given a new comfort and her new dress is stunning. Jo from our first meeting, I knew we were in good hands. Your warmth and lovely manner is very special. Thank you.
These dining chairs were reupholstered in white grained leather as requested by the customer. Previously upholstered in the cloth – see the original image below. We use only the finest Scottish leather, it looks amazing, feels fantastic and smells really lovely. The quality of these hides is way better than most manufactured leather furniture. The leather is 4mm thick so will take generations of use. They were boardroom chairs owned by the customer. We transformed into white for the dining room.
At first glance, you may be forgiven for thinking this is just an old dated dining chair. Look at the frame, particularly the curved and jointed front curve of the arms, the sheen of the varnish. This is a quality designer chair. Reupholstered in a high-grade Scottish leather it took two hides to complete the set of six. Now an upgraded design piece that will sit well in a modern or contemporary home.
Yes, this sofa is sixty years old. Made in the fab 1960s and purchased second-hand many years ago by our customer. Should they restore it or not was the question. They are so glad they did – delighted.
It is lovely and a design classic that will appreciate in value as an original retro classic.
The Orange Peel Chair was designed to capture the organic beauty of a falling orange peel. Its unique, curved design makes it a true statement piece, can look great in any home, and it’s surprisingly comfortable, it tilts back.
We’ve had the pleasure of restoring and reupholstering several iconic Orange Peel Chairs from across the UK. Reupholstering this chair presents a unique challenge due to its unconventional design and curved cushion, but our master craftsman, Barry, expertly handles these with his care and precision. We recently completed one in suple Scottish hide, and the customer said it looked even better than new. Another example is below that was originally in vinyl and re reupholstered it in a velvet.
Designer chairs like this, especially when restored, can be worth some thousands of pounds. They not only retain their high value but also serve as a wonderful conversation piece and a comfortable chair that will last a lifetime.
Below are a couple of examples—one in velvet and one in Scottish hide, both orange in colour.
For this project, we replaced the original vinyl with the customer’s chosen velvet fabric, giving the chair a softer, more luxurious look and feel. The result is a beautiful blend of form and function—a true work of art that’s also a comfortable seat.
We received the chair and I have to say you did a wonderful job. It’s better than the photos. My husband was shocked at how good the chair looks. Thank you.
